The PKU Press is published 3 times a year as a service of the PKU Organization of Illinois. This Internet Edition complements the printed version with edited versions of selected articles that are felt to be of interest to the PKU community. In conjunction with the three Illinois clinics, we are working together to provide information, offer support, highlight achievements, and provide services for the benefit of the PKU community.

Annual Meeting November 11
You won’t want to miss it

The PKU Organization of Illinois 31st annual meeting, will be held on November 11 in the Chicago area. It promises to be a great one. This yearly event gives PKU families an opportunity to get together to learn, visit, and sample new food products. This year’s feature speakers will be Dr. Richard Koch and Dr. Randy Eisensmith.

Richard Koch, M.D. is an internationally recognized pioneer in the care of children with metabolic problems. His particular specialty is Phenylketonuria (PKU). Dr. Koch's career spans more than 40 years and includes clinical care, research, teaching, and advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Randy Eisensmith, Ph.D. is a professor at the Institute of Gene Therapy and Molecular Medicine and Department of Human Genetics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He is actively involved with gene therapy research and will educate us on current developments in this exciting field of research.

We also are planning to include other activities and speakers including Jean Koch, author of the PKU Story book, Dr. Burton, Dr. Hoganson, Dr. Wong, Vendor tables displaying food products and information, Annual Raffle, Product table, Snack/Holiday Cookie exchange.

Our annual raffle is a great fundraising source for the organization. Please consider helping in this area by selling raffle tickets, which will be mailed to you soon, or finding additional raffle prizes that can be awarded.

The board is still in the planning stages for this event and will add additional items and details as we finalize plans. Watch your mail for more information on this event.
